KNOWLEDGE + EXPERIENCE + TRAINING = ACCURACY
Why ask if a team is certified? There are countless dog handlers that never receive or do enough training. A certification will at least determine if someone has taken the time to have another professional test their dog's ability. Why ask who certified them? That’s simply, self certification has never work! Organizing a group of trainers and handlers in the same discipline to oversee testing should not be trusted either. We choose to seek outside the industry professionals whose reputation for accuracy and their training skills are counted on to save lives not just to fill a need for certification, WE use a true Independent Certification Process. Our dogs meet the same high level of skill required by the Government and Armed Forces for drug and explosive detection K9 teams. We purchase and train our own dogs, dogs that we evaluated and picked from breeders we trust. Our dogs receive over 200 hours of training before they can be tested for certification and an additional 50 field training hours before being placed into service. We pride ourselves on accuracy and our very high K9 standard of not false alerting. False alerts cost you money and damage a handler’s reputation. This is what sets us apart from other companies that buy pre-trained dogs, where the soon to be dog owner spends a couple weeks learning to be a handler. Similar to a youth football player thinking he can join the NFL because he bought a football. For our K9 team to successfully pass certification they must search 10 hotel rooms, the examiner hides two controlled vials of no more than 5 live bed bugs in several places, all bed bug locations must be found with NO false alerts. Distraction scents are also place throughout the testing area. Testing also includes the dog’s desire to work, his ability to be directed along with her obedience which includes an off lead “Down-Stay” command while the handler visually confirms the present of bed bugs. We re-certify semi-annually.
What's Important For You To Know
What's important for you to know? Many bed bug blogs talk about a dog's accuracy and with due concern. There is two things to insist on when hiring a dog team. Are they certified by a 3rd party, being certified by the company that sold you their pre-trained dog is questionable at best. Second, if they tell you there are bed bugs in your home or building ask to see them, false alerts are common with dogs that do not get proper maintenance training. Don't spend hundreds of dollar without seeing the evidence.
K9 Alerts and Visual Confirmation: Verifying the dog's find is a must, properly trained and maintained teams will be the most accuracy, but how do you as a lay person know the dog team is performing and advertised. When a dog alerts a responsible handler will visually inspect and verify the existences of live bed bugs and show you where they are. Here at K9 Bed Bug Detection NW when our dog alerts we will physical find the bugs and show them to you.
False alerts. When a dog alerts and no evidence of bugs is located do not spend your money to have an eradication performed. One of two things has happened. The improperly trained dog is looking to please his handler and looking for his reward or the handler knowingly or unknowingly cued the dog to alert. The second comes from an inexperienced handler and the handler therefor believes his dog has found bed bugs. False alerts and them trying to sell you an eradication service is a sure sign you've hired the wrong team. Demand your money back.
